Allergies & Intolerances

Allergies occur when the body's immune system exhibits an exaggerated reaction to a normally harmless substance. Substances that often cause a reaction include: pollen, dust mites, animal dander, medications, bites, stings and/or foods.

This reaction causes inflammatory substances like histamine to be released. This often leads to symptoms such as swelling, itching, hives, wheezing, anaphylaxis, asthma, or gastrointestinal related disturbances. These reactions can be life threatening in certain instances, meaning that an integrated approach with your doctor is essential.

Intolerances involve a lower grade reaction that is often localised to the digestive tract. Foods can often be improperly digested resulting in symptoms such as: abdominal pain, bloating, gas, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, cramping, or headaches.

Long term exposure to foods  or substances that you are intolerant to can have a detrimental effect on the body. This creates a chronic state of inflammation that the body is constantly working to overcome and heal.

Both allergies and intolerances can benefit from naturopathic care by identifying the trigger, eliminating it, and then working to heal the underlying health deficiencies that are unique to each individual.

Common areas of treatment include:

  • Comprehensive food allergy & sensitivity testing

  • Dust mite allergy

  • Hayfever

  • Food sensitivities / intolerances

  • Yeast sensitivity

  • Coeliac's disease

  • Salicylate sensitivity

  • Histamine intolerance

  • Chronic immune infections
